It's this one...http://www.gtglass.com/product_detail/79/12-volt-drill.html
Somethings is wrong with the chuck. The whole chuck came off when I was adjusting between a drill bit and buffing wheel. Now the chuck will not open when it's screwed on the drill. Seems there is a treaded piece in the middle of the drill that maybe is screwed out too far. I don't know how to adjust it.
Need some insight.

can you take a pic of your drill as she is now and a zoom in of the piece you are taking about?
This will really help me help you out...
I would also get a cordless Dremel as a back up.

The theaded sleeve in the middle seams to be out too far, and pushing the chuck closed prematurely. I'm tring to send you pictures of the parts.
http://www.hazyheadlightrepairs.com/_private/100_3476.JPG shows the chuck all the way closed when theaded on the drill.
http://www.hazyheadlightrepairs.com/_private/100_3477.JPG shows center threaded piece too far out.

Have you threaded it all the way back in as far as it goes, then back it off? Normally that will set the chuck to to drill....?
I had the do this with the Dremel chuck I use....
I see now other thing differant to the new drill and your drill as is.
Give that a try and see what it does for you.

The only thing I can do is to get the chuck pushed on which pushes the jaws together all the way. It only seems to grab few of the theads before the jaws are tight. There is no way to tighten it down that I can see. It seems the theaded part in the middle is pushing too soon on the chuck. I don't know.

do you think it is cross threaded?

Is there any thing like metal in the threads on the chuck or the drill?

I have mailed a replacement chuck Bruce, Simply unthread the black annodized piece from the central shaft, and replace with the new chuck.

I want thank Adam and all the folks at GT for all the help with this drill chuck issue. Repair guys in the field need this kind of support and technical know how to keep moving and repairing glass. There is never a time we can turn down a job because of our equipment, someone else will be there to do the work.
I don't think any company before has taken the time and interest in what I need in this regard, and I'm pleased to say thank you Glass Technology for the exceptional customer service.
The problem was solved because the GT guy never gave up on finding the solution to the chuck problem.
They are even replacing the part for me, now that's about perfect in my book.
The video Skype session was the best for me to be able to see what I needed to do up close and inperson.
No way would I ever change vendors form these guys.
Give GT a try and you'll see what I mean.
Best regards to you all!

Bruce
I am glad they were able to help you out....
I personally would still have a back up Drill, be it 12V or a cordless Dremal.
Being cordless will also help you on car lots by going to the next car to get it prepped for filling while you are still set up on the first car or even follow up for polishing out a repair you did and went to the next car that has been prepped while the first one was curing...
Just a small tip from a veteran tech.

Bruce,
The black threaded section of your chuck (picture 2) which is still on the shaft of the drill just needs to be wound off the drill and then screwed back into the chuck.
I undo this bit regularily on my drill to clean the inside of my chuck of powdered glass so as the chuck will grip the drill bits correctly.

If you have the small drill bits that came with your system, use them and drill right in the crack side along the the broken bit. Use a crack jack and push the crack open a slight bit, use a magnet and remove the broken bit.

The magnet solution above is the best method. If you are having trouble, please feel free to call us for support as well. The office number can be found on the GT website.
